During his life he appeared at different levels\u2014as a poor fakir, saint, Guru, Paramatma and, beneath them, an Avatar carrying out a larger purpose. The powers he displayed were instruments of that purpose, not achievements to be admired for their own sake.<\/p>\n<h3>Why 1886 is a turning point<\/h3>\n<p>The chapter treats Baba\u2019s voluntary departure from the body in 1886 and his return after three days as an important marker. His siddhis had been visible earlier, but after this event the work associated with them became easier to see as a mission directed beyond the small circle of people immediately around him.<\/p>\n<p>Before this turning point, Baba\u2019s help chiefly reached people linked to him through close personal or past-life bonds. Thereafter, the movement expanded. Devotees from distant places were drawn to Shirdi, and the Sai faith began to spread widely through worship, stories, service and the transformation of those who came into contact with him.<\/p>\n<h3>Individual and collective work<\/h3>\n<p>Baba\u2019s powers were used to relieve suffering, protect devotees, correct wrong conduct and guide people toward faith, love and surrender. The visible benefits included healing and material help, but the deeper result was spiritual: people became more moral, more compassionate and more capable of carrying the influence of devotion into their families and communities.<\/p>\n<p>The chapter also connects Baba\u2019s mission with the purification and unification of religious life. By allowing Hindus and Muslims to approach him through their own traditions, while meeting at a common centre, he challenged divisions of caste, creed and sect. The movement was intended to restrain atheism and sectarian conflict and to restore the common ethical and spiritual core of religion.<\/p>\n<h3>Mission after the body<\/h3>\n<p>Baba\u2019s work did not end with Mahasamadhi. Devotees who had received his grace continued to carry the message, worship and service into other regions. The mission lives wherever individual benefit becomes compassion for others and where remembrance of Baba produces truth, love, equality and steady spiritual practice.<\/p>\n<h3>What this account invites us to reflect on<\/h3>\n<p>The chapter presents mission as selfless responsibility.
