Sai’s Golden Test

Chapter 9 · Live Experiences of the Tarkhad Family

Sai’s Golden Test

A test of material desire beside the Shirdi rivulet, and a devotee’s choice to value Baba’s grace above gold

The chapter

One evening Baba led Jyotindra toward the rivulet and uncovered a shining object in the soil. He told him it was gold and invited him to take as much as he wished.

Jyotindra declined, saying that Baba’s grace was enough and that he had not come to Shirdi for material wealth. Baba presented the choice as a test of attachment, and Jyotindra remained firm.

A villager who later tried to search for the hidden treasure was stung by a scorpion. Baba used the episode to remind him that each person receives according to karma and should not try to take what was not given.
