Life of Sai Baba — Volume 4: Front Matter

A guide to Part IV, its contents, and the book’s stated purpose in presenting Sai Baba’s philosophy, teachings and examples.

The front matter

Radhakrishnaswamiji offers Part IV of Life of Sai Baba to Sai devotees as the fourth part of Sri B. V. Narasimha Swami’s record of Baba’s life and teachings. He presents the work as spiritual reading grounded in the events, words and examples connected with Baba.

The contents list twelve chapters. They cover Baba’s relation to philosophical schools, the spread of his name, his moral guidance, the question of God, religion and commonsense, the future of religion, the goals of life and knowledge, national unity, Baba’s humour, siddhis, his later lilas in South India, and his teaching about extraordinary powers. Appendices follow these chapters.

Radhakrishnaswamiji places the volume beside the earlier parts of Narasimha Swami’s work. The four volumes bring together accounts of Baba’s conduct, teachings and influence so that devotees, students and spiritual seekers can study them through concrete incidents rather than abstract claims alone.

Part IV therefore moves from Baba’s conversations and moral instructions to questions about religious unity and spiritual powers. The original preface and contents should be read with the complete book for the author’s full wording and context.
