Frightful Sight of Goddess MariAai

Chapter 5 · Live Experiences of the Tarkhad Family

Frightful Sight of Goddess MariAai

A frightening vision during the cholera epidemic, and Baba’s protection of a devotee who continued to serve in Dwarkamai.

The chapter

During one of Jyotindra Tarkhad’s visits to Shirdi, a cholera epidemic was spreading through the surrounding villages. Although frightened, his faith in Sai Baba led him to continue his daily service, including lighting the Petromax lamps in Dwarkamai.

One evening Baba rebuked him fiercely and instructed him to sit at His feet. While pressing Baba’s legs, Jyotindra experienced a terrifying vision of a goddess in a menacing form. He fainted and later awoke to Baba reviving him and offering water.

When Jyotindra asked about the vision, Baba explained that the goddess had come for his life, but Baba had refused to allow her to take it. The experience became for him a vivid sign of Baba’s protective grace.
