The chapter
In 1910 Fakir Durvesh Shah sent Imam Bhai Chote Khan to Sai Baba. Following the instruction he had received, Chote Khan recited the opening chapter of the Koran behind Baba. Baba turned, rebuked him, and did not permit him to enter the Mosque for two days. The rebuke also recalled an assault Chote Khan had committed while serving in the Nizam’s office, after which he had resigned and feared prosecution.
When Chote Khan was finally admitted, Baba told him not to fear and said, “Allah Malik.” Chote Khan stayed nearly two months. Baba assured him that a land dispute with his paternal aunt would end amicably, and it did. On a later visit Baba foretold his mother’s death by referring to a thorn injury. After her death Chote Khan returned without money for the funeral. Baba gave him udhi and described an old woman who would provide the money and relatives who would arrive for the ceremony; a widow gave him fifty rupees at his door.
Baba later foretold the birth of a son whom Chote Khan named Gulab. On another occasion Baba warned him not to leave because storms and fire would bring danger. Chote Khan ignored the warning. Lightning struck a pipal tree near him, and he saw Baba standing behind him with two tawny dogs. He then crossed what appeared to be a knee-deep stream, only to see from the far bank that it was a raging river.
Years later, when Chote Khan needed money for Gulab’s marriage, Baba sent him in a dream to Poona. The chapter continues with Baba’s assistance reaching him through practical remedies and timely guidance.
